Windows 7 not only comes with new features but also comes with backward compatibility so that you can use most of the old programs without hustle. But some old programs may require even more, So to ensure the compatibility windows 7 has some thing called XP mode, with which you can run all your old programs. In this post we will be discussing on how to activate XP mode in windows 7
Activating XP mode in windows 7 is far more easy, just follow the steps…
Note: You should use genuine windows 7 to download certain software’s from Microsoft.
Requirements
- At least 2Gb(for 64-bit you need 3GB) of memory(RAM).
- Minimum of 15GB space on your hard drive.
- Your processor should support hardware virtualization(we will know how to check that later in this post)
- You need to download Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode, These two are directly supplied by Microsoft.
Steps To Follow
Step #1: First you need to find whether your processor supports hardware virtualization or not. To do so you need to download a small app called SecurAble, After downloading this small app just open it and it will show you the result(In fact most of the modern processors support virtualization).
By opening this app if you got the result as above then you can proceed to the next steps.
Step #2: Now install windows virtual pc and windows xp mode which you had downloaded before and restart your pc.
Step #3: After restarting your pc run Virtual Windows XP item in your start menu, add some password which you can remember and complete the wizard.
That’s it, After completing this steps you will see some dialog box saying that you are good to use XP mode.
But, if you receive some message like hardware virtualization is not enabled then you have to enable it from your BIOS.
Note: If you are installing any software in Windows XP be sure to select all users while installation.
